Jon C. Komorowski was appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council as Director of the Whatcom County Public Defender Office in 2006.
Prior to his appointment, Jon had served as Chief Criminal Deputy since the Public Defender’s Office was created in 1982.
Jon graduated first in his class from Gonzaga Law School in 1978. He worked doing criminal defense for the Spokane County Public Defender’s Office, prior to moving to Bellingham. In addition to being admitted to the Washington State Bar, Jon was admitted to practice in United States District for both the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington in 1980. He was also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in 2000.
Jon has previously served on the Board of Governors of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and in 2001 was the recipient of the President’s Award from the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for distinguished service. He is currently a member of the Washington Defender Association and serves on the Board of Directors of that Association. Jon is currently a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He continues to carry a caseload.
