The de Boer levee project replaced the portion of the levee that washed out in last winter’s high waters from the Nooksack. The project restored the flood protection for approximately 350 acres of agricultural lands during the growing season, improved fish passage, and protects the access road to the Public Utility District’s water intake. A temporary sandbag levee was installed on an interim basis until the permanent repair could be constructed during the fish window. A failed culvert was also replaced along with the installation of a self-regulating flood gate.
This effort was through a coordinated funding agreement with the Public Utility District, Diking District #4, and the Whatcom County Flood Control Zone District.
