This project was the result of a Federal Safety Initiative to reduce fatalities and serious injury collisions on county roadways throughout the state. Whatcom County's grant addresses safety concerns through additional signage and installation of shoulder rumble strips.
Whatcom County was awarded $730,000 in Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds for this project in December of 2014.
The construction contract was awarded to Razz Construction of Bellingham, WA, in June of 2016 in the amount of $678,890.00. Rumble Strip installation will commence August 15, 2016, with horizontal alignment sign installation following in mid September. Sign installation is expected to last through November of 2016.
