Recorded Documents


All documents are indexed by names in the document (grantor/grantee), auditor file number, document date, and document type(s).  Documents recorded after January 1, 1997 are also indexed by Assessor's parcel number and the property's legal description.  To view or research recorded documents:
 
  • 1981 - Present:  Documents can be viewed online.
  • 1960 - 1980:  Documents are viewable online by auditor file number. The index to recorded documents is available on microfilm in the Auditor's Office Public Research area.
  • 1853 - 1982:  The index to recorded documents and microfilm images of the documents are available in the Auditor's Office Public Research area.    

Document Search


Documents are available for search online through the Recorded Document Search. All documents that can be viewed online have had Social Security numbers redacted; the numbers are not viewable.

Veteran records are not accessible online and are available only to the veteran or veteran's next of kin. More information about service records.
 

Marriage Documents


Marriage applications and certificates issued in Whatcom County are indexed by the names of the couple and the date of marriage, and can be researched in the following ways:
 
  • 1980 to Present:   Index data only (names, dates) is available online from our Marriage Search site.
  • 1890 to Present:   Indexes and images are available in the Auditor's Office Public Research area.
  • 1890 to 1995:  Marriage certificates are also available from the Washington State Digital Archives
