COUNCIL-APPOINTED SPECIAL DISTRICT BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS VACANCIES

The Whatcom County Council makes appointments. Applicants must be property owners in the district, and registered voters in the State of Washington. Terms expire and all positions will be subject to election at the special district general election of February 2020 or February 2022. For more term information, call the Election Division of the County Auditor’s Office at 778-5100.
Applicants may complete and submit an application online. Applications may also be downloaded from the County website or are available in the Council Office at the Whatcom County Courthouse, 311 Grand Ave., Ste. 105, Bellingham, or by phone at 360-778-5010.
Applications are due at 10:00 a.m. March 20, 2018. The Whatcom County Council will fill these vacancies at its March 27, 2018 meeting, or at a later date. Meetings are in the Council Chambers, at the Whatcom County Courthouse, 311 Grand Avenue, Bellingham, Washington, at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise announced.
Duties include field review of drainage needs, attending an annual meeting to determine the next year’s work schedule and assessment levy, elect internal officers, and review, discuss, or act on any other official and district business. (RCW 85.06 and RCW 85.38.070 (5))

1 vacancy, Supervisor Position 3. Appointed term will expire at the special district general election of February 2020. District boundary generally encompasses the area east/southeast of the City of Lynden, north of the Nooksack River, and includes Kamm Ditch and Morman Ditch drainage areas. See map
Drainage Improvement District #6
Supervisor Position 1. 4 year term will expire at the special district general election of February 2022.
Supervisor Position 2. 2 year term will expire at the special district general election of February 2020.
District boundary generally encompasses the area located midway between Lynden and Ferndale and bounded and/or transected by portions of W. Pole, Old Guide, King Tut, Aldrich, and Woodlyn Roads. Unnamed tributary ditch to Cougar Creek/Nooksack River is the primary channel. See map
Drainage Improvement District #15
1 vacancy, Supervisor Position 1. 2 year term will expire at the special general election of February 2020.
District boundary generally encompasses much of the lowland area east/southeast of Sumas and south of the Canadian Border and primarily drained by Saar Creek and Arnold (Mud) Slough. The main roads within the district include Jones Road, Rock Road, Hillview Road, Bishop Road, and Reese Hill Road. See map
