Special Events

Looking for that special venue to make lasting memories for large gatherings, athletic events, festivals and crowds of all sizes?  Whatcom County Parks & Recreation has many unique and beautiful park locations for your special event.

​What is a Special Event

Any event doing any of the following is considered a special event:
  • Athletic Events
  • Music Festivals
  • Open to the Public
  • Selling tickets
  • Selling food, alcohol or merchandise
  • Requires services or facilities not normally available to the general public
  • May disrupt or interfere with the public's regular use of the facility

​The Application Process (complete application required to proceed)

  1. Find your location 
  2. Submit the application at least 90 days prior to event
  3. Application must include:
    1. Application
    2. Application Fee
    3. Plan of Operation
    4. Site Map
  4. Receive preliminary permit
  5. Submit requirements outlined in preliminary permit
  6. Receive final permit

Permit Insurance Requirements

Whatcom County Parks & Recreation requires all Special Event Permits be insured for the term of the permit.  The applicate shall obtain and file with the Department no less than 30 days prior to the event insurance that meets the minimum requirements. Examples of commonly required insurance can be found here.
 

Special Event Fees


Fees for special events vary based on event activities.  When you submit your application we can help estimate your fees.

Any event may require additional permits, approvals or services from other government agencies or County Departments.
