Abbott Levee Habitat Improvement Project

Summary

This project will improve habitat along a section of eroding river bank and also reduce the potential for erosion damage to the Abbott Levee and Abbott Road. The project consists of installing woody habitat structures along the river’s bank and is scheduled for construction during the summer of 2021.

Traffic Impacts

Moderate truck traffic is expected along Abbott Road during construction. No road closures are planned.

Project Benefits

  • Improve Salmon and Riparian Habitat
  • Reduce Erosion threatening Levee and Road

During the winter of 2014-2015, rip rap protecting the river’s left bank scoured out in the vicinity of Abbott Road and Levee. Since then, the bank has eroded approximately 150 feet and now threatens the stability of the Abbott Levee. Much of the existing habitat and vegetation in this location has been eroded.
