WHATCOM COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE

WSP vehicle pursuit leads to a barricaded suspect
WCSO’s SWAT, CNT assist in a safe outcome

Bellingham, WA. On January 16 around 1:00 am, deputies responded to the 1300 block of Roma Rd. in Bellingham, to assist Washington State Patrol. A WSP pursuit of a suspect vehicle had ended at a residence and the driver, 51-year-old Brett Frost from Bellingham fled into the house and refused to come out.

The residence was surrounded as troopers applied for a search warrant. While this was happening, Mr. Frost exited the back of the residence and pointed a handgun at the deputies. Mr. Frost then retreated into the residence. Deputies and troopers continued to urge Mr. Frost to come out from the residence and he continued to refuse. Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Team were called to assist.

Mr. Frost did not respond to the efforts of the Crisis Negotiation Team and continued to refuse to exit the residence. After confirming that Mr. Frost was the only one in the house, chemical munitions were introduced. After approximately three hours, Mr. Frost eventually surrendered and was taken into custody after being cleared by medical aid on the scene.

A subsequent search of the residence produced several firearms, ammunition, and controlled substances, all of which were seized by WSP.
